A man exuding simplicity, Shri Hiralal Devpura was known for determination and honesty in his approach and work. He practised as a lawyer and was well-reputed, which led to him becoming the Chairman of the Bar Association of Rajsamand in 1955. He was also highly inspired by Gandhian philosophy. Devpuraji was made the Chief Minister of Rajasthan owing to a constitutional vacuum made by Shiv Charan Mathurji’s resignation. Although his stint as a Chief Minister was relatively short, he assumed the position of the Speaker of Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha when Hari Deo Joshiji became the CM.
